Theodora Richards rocks the High Street 06.08.2005

Thin and lanky with a rock star sneer, Theodora Richards seems to be emulating her Rolling Stone father Keith as she fronts a new fashion campaign. Striking a series of poses for High Street chain Morgan, 20-year-old Theodora, whose mum is Seventies supermodel Patti Hansen, confidently clutches an electric guitar just like dear old dad. "We wanted to play on her rock and roll heritage," said a spokesperson for the retailer. "She's sexy, trendy and young." Theodora has previously teamed up with fellow rock offspring in the name of fashion, including starring in a Tommy Hilfiger campaign with Sting's son Jake Sumner among others, and showing off Marks & Spencer underwear in ads alongside Mick Jagger's model daughter Elizabeth....HELLO MAGAZINE

Joss Stone continues to make music with Gap 01.08.2005

Despite rumours to the contrary, British soul singer Joss Stone is still a trend-setting favourite for clothing retailer Gap. While last week it was reported that the boho blonde had been cut from the denim giant's upcoming adverts, the stylish teenager is once again striking a pose for the chain's autumn campaign. Replacing Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker for summer 2005, Joss has been strutting her stuff in the white denim line and crooning The Right Time in TV ads. For autumn, she'll be joining fellow music divas Alanis Morissette and Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child to show off the latest Gap collection. Joss, who has reportedly earned upwards of £600,000 in endorsements alone since topping the charts, will be singing one of her favourite tunes – the Beach Boys' God Only Knows – for the TV campaigns. Meanwhile, Alanis will record her preferred hit, Crazy by Seal, and Michelle has chosen the Al Green classic, Let's Stay Together....HELLO MAGAZINE

The Billionaire's Club 19.07.2005

FLAVIO BRIATORE's new fashion line is strictly for the richest of the rich. Named Billionaire Couture after his glittering Sardinia nightclub, it promises to be the new must-have of the seriously extravagant – after they've secured the yacht, the helicopter and a sprawling mansion in every city they can think of, that is. "I want people to be able to recognise a Billionaire Couture item immediately," designer Angelo Galasso, who is designing the line with Briatore, tells GQ. "Nowadays, a lot of men's fashion in Italy is too much about the brand. We are trying to do something a little more original." Which means real gold buttons on jeans priced at anything between £500 and £1,000, shirts for around £300, jackets for up to £6,000 and diamond and ruby-encrusted key chains – and they all arrive wrapped up in cedar-lined cigar humidor. And Flavio, with his high lifestyle and supermodel entourage, is the perfect muse for Galasso. "With Flavio, I see someone who is proud and powerful. When I started designing clothes for him, people would stop him and say, 'Flavio, you've lost weight!' 'No, he hasn't,' I'd tell them. 'It's the cut of my jackets.'"...VOGUE

"Today's man is more comfortable with himself and lets his real personality shine through," said Hermes designer Veronique Nichanian. "Before, he followed trends, but basically never deviated from a set dress code. Today, he mixes it up a bit." Fashion Playboy 02.07.2005

ROBERTO CAVALLI has been picked to update the Playboy Bunny Costume for the first time in 25 years. The sexy new uniform, which will be granted a trademark registration by the United States Patent Office, will be launched to celebrate the new Playboy tower at the Palms Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas which is expected to open next year. Over time, the cut became more revealing, the colours changed and a rosette was added featuring the Bunny's name. Today, both the Chicago Historical Society and The Smithsonian boast one of the costumes in their permanent collections. "The Bunny Costume has undergone only modest changes over the years, so as to maintain its identity and special character," said Playboy's chairman and ceo, Christie Hefner. "Roberto Cavalli is the perfect designer to reinterpret the magic of the original design as he too embraces the good life, inspires an aspirational lifestyle for a jet-set crowd and of course celebrates beautiful women."...VOGUE

Sienna and Brooke pick up the scent of a good party 20.06.2005

Given that he is one of Britain's top designers, Matthew Williamson counts more than a few A-list beauties among his circle of friends. So it came as small surprise to London's fashionistas when a series of glamorous stars turned out for the launch of his new fragrance on Tuesday night. Jude Law's fiancée Sienna Miller, who is one of the style guru's closest friends, was snapped laughing and joking with him at the bash. The 23-year-old had to dash across town from the Wyndham Theatre where she is currently starring in As You Like to be at her pal's side for the shindig. And American star Brooke Shields likewise made her way to Harvey Nichols Fifth Floor Café immediately after taking a bow on the West End stage. The statuesque performer did find time to swap the sexy black outfit she wears as Roxy Hart in Chicago for a rather more demure turquoise number, though. Among the other celebs mingling in the Knightsbridge venue were top models Alek Wek, Lily Cole and Portia Freeman. The man at the centre of everybody's attention confessed the inspiration for his eponymous perfume came from two other famous names, however - Jade Jagger and Helena Christensen. Style's in the bag for high flyers Brad and Becks 02.06.2005

When international stars Brad Pitt and David Beckham dashed through Heathrow airport this week, they looked like they could have been headed for a runway of a different sort. Miami spice: the men's underwear collections 16.05.2005

Colombian designers certainly know how to grab your attention. Liliana Fierro got Fashion Week of the Americas off to a cracking start in Miami with a citrus shocker female swimwear show, and then Mundo Unico happened. Not that there was much fabric involved in the men's underwear creations clinging on just south of the six-packs that sashayed down the catwalk. One of the big success stories to come out of Colombia's fashion industry in recent years, Mundo Unico is the brainchild of designer Nicolas Echeverri. Their big selling-points have been the introduction of Lycra and the elimination of seams in boxer shorts. The brand's carefree use of attractive colours has also boosted its appeal, making for a win-win combination of comfort and sexiness. Currently in its seventh edition, Fashion Week of the Americas, which offers a unique showcase for designers from North and South America, runs through Sunday....HELLO MAGAZINE

Usher complains to Trump after suitcase swipe 21.04.2005

R&B star Usher is about £50,000 poorer after a suitcase full of his valuables was stolen from the swanky Trump International Hotel in New York. Unfortunately, the helpful aide was actually an imposter – and he escaped undetected with the expensive belongings. Usher called the hotel's owner, billionaire magnate Donald Trump, directly to complain after the incident. "I told him we'll get it solved," said Donald, who attended the star's 26th birthday party last year. However, the savvy real estate mogul also gave the young crooner some good travel advice. "I told him I'd love for him to just bring his bag up (to his room when he checks in)," Donald revealed to the New York Post. "He understands what I was saying… It puts a lot of pressure on the staff."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Demi steps into Madonna's shoes at Versace 15.04.2005

When a bikini-clad Demi Moore emerged onto the beach in Charlie's Angels 2, much was made of her age-defying good looks. Two years later the actress seems to be losing none of her allure, as she has been chosen to take over from Madonna as the face of Versace. Now 42 years old, Demi will appear on billboards and magazine pages for the Italian fashion house. And Versace has evidently rejected the industry norm of only using very young models - the Material Girl had already turned 45 when she posed for last year's campaign. Rumours the GI Jane star would be modelling for the firm first began circulating last week after she was spotted having dinner with Donatella and photographer Mario Testino in London. After dining at the fashionable Vong restaurant, the party moved on to Fifty Casino on St James' Street. Demi's 27-year-old boyfriend Ashton Kutcher has meanwhile laughed off reports the couple are expecting their first child together. "Why am I the last person to find out everything?," he joked. "I'm going to be a daddy? God, no one tells me anything." His girlfriend's publicist, Stephen Huvane, avoided giving an outright rejection when questioned about the rumours, however. "Having another child is something Demi would like to do, but she cannot at this time say she is pregnant," he said....HELLO MAGAZINE

Rio beats Becks to best-dressed man title 08.04.2005

Footballing hunk Rio Ferdinand has toppled his England team-mate David Beckham as Britain's best-dressed man. His triumph marks the end of an era, as Becks has taken the top spot for the past three years. And although Rio is better-known for his "corn-roll" hairstyle than his clothes, GQ Magazine, which organises the event, says he is the very epitome of understated chic. "He is the unlikely hero of the hour, a footballer who takes himself just seriously enough," says editor Dylan Jones. "He is a clotheshorse in the best sense of the word and has got great dress sense." Rio was one of a series of soccer stars who appeared in our recent Fit Footballers report. Among the other handsome athletes making their mark on the modelling game are goalkeeper David James, who appears in ads for H&M, and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who strikes a pose for Pepe Jeans. Armani meanwhile counts on the talents of Brazilian heart-throb Kaká, while Arsenal hunk Freddie Ljungberg is a Calvin Klein undies pin-up. The sport's most famous clothes horse, David Beckham, has been relegated to the title of worst-dressed man of the last 12 months. Indeed his eye-catching ensemble left the competition for dead, with Johnny garnering five times as many votes as his nearest challenger Jeremy Irons. Gaultier and Westwood on playful form in Paris 03.03.2005

Fashionistas gathered in the French capital this week were treated to a characteristically sassy spectacle when two of the industry's most flamboyant designers presented their latest collections. Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier both proved they have lost none of their mischievous flair when they took Paris Fashion Week by storm. British design's most famous daughter sent her models down the runway in a succession of pinks and whites. The intricate tailoring she is known for were also there in abundance, and the anarchic messages emblazoned across many of the creations would suggest that, even after 35 years in the industry, she is still a revolutionary at heart. When she finally appeared to rapturous applause at the end of the show, the 63-year-old told her fans the theme of her autumn/winter 2005/2006 collection was "the more you consume the less you think". The enfant terrible of French fashion likewise made a memorable impression. Gaultier' s new ready to wear range was big on oversize cuts and vibrant autumnal colours, with wide-brimmed hats adding to the impact. But there was also a more refined flavour to many of his creations. Long jackets with fitted waists made for a sober contrast, while an abundance of tweed and fur-trimmed collars brought a little extra warmth to the runway....HELLO MAGAZINE

Sienna and Kiera Lead Tributes To Fashion Week Star 23.02.2005

British style guru Matthew Williamson was applauded by a roll call of big names when he made a triumphant return to London on Wednesday. Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller and Helena Christensen were among those who went along to congratulate him as he was honoured with the Moet & Chandon Fashion Tribute Award. The experience of receiving the prestigious trophy was presumably made all the sweeter by the fact his A-list friends were wearing his creations. Sienna, who has turned to Matthew to design the dress for her forthcoming wedding to Jude Law, opted for a striking pink affair. "They are the kind of clothes you dream about as a little girl," she said. Her fellow actress Keira Knightley was meanwhile looking sophisticated in a chocolate brown number under a cropped jacket. "This is the first time I've worn one of his gowns and I must say I feel very pretty in it," revealed the 19-year-old. Rachel and Jodie strike new note at LFW 15.02.2005

Both well-known for their alluring features, Rachel Hunter and Jodie Kidd were sporting a distinctly alternative look when they hit the runway for Israeli designer Ronit Zilkha. Indeed, the two models were barely recognisable as they stepped out on the opening day of London Fashion Week. Ronit's team of hair and make-up maestros had spent hours teasing their hair into gravity-defying frizzes that drew gasps from the audience. And a heavy layer of white powder made Jodie's usually radiant skin look positively ashen. Opinion seemed to be divided on the loose-fitting floral and paisley frocks that dominated the show, but it Ronit was probably more interested in making her mark than winning applause. As one of British fashion's most established and respected figures, she no longer has any need to prove her reputation. Among the big names who came along to see her latest collection were Hollywood star Juliette Lewis and trendy chart-topper Sophie Ellis Bextor....HELLO MAGAZINE

Spring/summer shows offer bridal inspiration 11.02.2005

Whether you're planning to tie the knot on the shore in Hawaii, need something suitable for a registry office "do", or are seeking the perfect gown for a no-expense-spared church ceremony, the spring/summer 2005 shows provided inspiration aplenty. Beach brides could pick up ideas from Jean-Paul Gaultier, whose vast white mask of sculpted tulle was worn over a tulle bikini, or Stella McCartney's tropics-friendly cotton lawn. Chloe and Lacroix both showed short numbers perfect for lower-key nuptials, while a beaded knee-length cocktail dress at Chanel was also likely to get imaginations racing. Meanwhile Ralph Lauren sent tailored cotton gowns with crisp flounces down the runway along with a selection of trademark silk satin gowns guaranteed to seduce evening brides. At Oscar de la Renta lace was a staple, both for frothy strapless numbers and chic A-line silhouettes. Equally "grand" were white gowns from Valentino, Guy de la Roche and Lacroix, who added a saucy gypsy element in a ruffled thigh-high split. Despite uncertainty over his future - his contract with the LVMH group expires in March - Christian Lacroix pulled out all the stops with a wedding confection worthy of any fairytale. Similarly fantastic were the inimitable Karl Lagerfeld's offerings for Chanel which took their inspiration from the heyday of the French court with fitted-bodice gowns featuring ornate skirts scattered with fluffy pom-poms. It may not have been what your mum had in mind, but it certainly gave a hint at what the truly cool are going to be wearing for their walk down the aisle in the coming months....HELLO MAGAZINE

Helena Hits The Catwalk Again 06.02.2005

Nineties supermodel Helena Christensen is back on the runway after a six-year retirement, and it happened in Barcelona. The 36-year-old photographer and mother of one, who still appears in front of the cameras for selected advertising campaigns but is hardly ever seen on the catwalk, was modelling for Catalan designer Josep Font at the Gaudi collections this week in the northern Spanish city. "Helena is a big fan of Josep's work and agreed to come out of retirement just for him," her spokesman says. Font sent Helena out in his trademark romantic look, which tempers floaty, whimsical floral prints with touches of uncompromising check. His accessories strike a similar note: little-girl shoes with big-sister heels, cute cat-face bags for grown-up kittens. With Paris and Milan dominating the fashion headlines at this time of year, the vibrancy (not to mention the long-running rivalry) of the Madrid and Barcelona shows tends to go unnoticed, but the presence of a name like Helena certainly boosts the Catalan capital's event. And with a major new style icon in the shape of Crown Princess Letizia helping put Spain on the fashion map, Spanish designers like Font, Victorio & Luchino and Lorenzo Caprile are currently kicking up quite a flurry of excitement which should continue through the Cibeles collections in Madrid in a couple of weeks' time....HELLO MAGAZINE

Lacroix Shows His True Colours 29.01.2005

Fashionistas gathered in Paris this week were treated to an explosion of colour when Christian Lacroix presented his latest collection. Louis XIV-style creations in vibrant hues floated down the runway as the flamboyant designer reaffirmed his master of haute couture status. Ruffled collars and frothy chiffon cuffs erupted out of fitted coats and bejewelled matador jackets in the exuberant show. The retro approach was continued in a series of voluminous ballgowns, with the audience bursting into applause when British teenager Lily Cole appeared on the catwalk in a pink taffeta number adorned with two huge fabric roses. The French couturier had promised the collection, his last for fashion giants LVMH, would be his "answer" to critics. And he certainly seems to have triumphed, with the audience of style critics and industry buyers honouring him with a standing ovation when the show came to an end. Speaking to reporters afterwards, he said he had no regrets about LVMH's decision to sell his label. "I'm not sad – it's a relief," he declared. "There have been a lot of misunderstandings and a lack of chemistry between us." Among those cheering the 53-year-old were several executives from new owners Falic, who paid £22 million for the label. "It's his last collection for LVMH, but technically it's his first for us," said company boss Simon Falic. "We love Lacroix. He is the diamond in our company – he will be our Dior."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Velvet Curtain Falls On Milan Fashion Week 27.01.2005

Milan men's fashion week came to a close on Thursday after five days packed with some of fashion's biggest names. Valentino, Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani were among those showcasing their autumn/winter 2005 collections. The King of Milan fashion Giorgio unveiled a collection which was masculine, avant-garde yet very wearable. The Italian maestro, who dedicated the collection to French poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau, used plush velvet to sculpt soft sports coats and trousers drawn from his considerable palette of colours ranging from cool grey to hot fuchsia. Trench coats and checked suits also featured prominently in the energetic show from the 70-year-old designer. Calvin Klein designer Italo Zucchelli, who took over from Calvin as the menswear designer last year, went with two of this season's favourite fabrics for men - velvet and leather - unveiling a stylish collection of office and casual wear. Valentino had rosy-cheeked models with Brylcreamed hair strutting the catwalk in a series of jet black outfits that ranged from wool sweaters to tuxedos, suits and sophisticated polo-necks. And despite Tom Ford no longer being at the helm, Gucci put on a crowd-pleasing affair as it showcased a confident autumn/winter 2005 collection which re-affirmed its penchant for sexy, cutting-edge menswear....HELLO MAGAZINE

Material Girl Signs On As New Face Of Versace 13.01.2005

Madonna is to be the new face of an advertising campaign for the Italian label Versace, the fashion house confirmed Thursday. The deal has the pop star following in the footsteps of a long line of celebrities promoting perfume or fashion brands, including Nicole Kidman, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. "She's an icon," Donatella Versace says of Madonna. "She is an innovator, a groundbreaker and the best in her field. She relates to women of all ages. She's got extraordinary personal style and has been a friend of mine and the house for many years." Hats Off To Britney, Lenny and Zara 04.01.2005

The last 12 months have thrown up the usual celebrity sartorial trends – both flattering and otherwise. But for covering all bases in 2004 the ubiquitous baker boy cap was hard to beat. In classic cream and teamed with a short topcoat and mini, it took on a regal twist as the head gear of choice for Zara Phillips when she attended church with the monarch on Christmas Day. And it wasn’t the first time the Queen’s granddaughter had sported the design, having given a chic suede version an outing a the National Hunt Festival in March. On pop princess Britney Spears the traditional-shaped cap took on a very different aspect, adding a cheeky top note to a casual jeans and jacket combination in January. It was also a hit with fellow songbird Macy Gray who opted for a brown corduroy version when she attended the premiere of Around The World In 80 Days....HELLO MAGAZINE

High Art Meets High Fashion At Guggenheim Gala 22.12.2004

New York's Guggenheim Museum is more accustomed to housing priceless artworks than cutting-edge fashion, but the prestigious venue was awash with style when a roll-call of big names turned out for the annual Artists' Ball. Tinseltown star Cristina Ricci was radiant in a flowing pink gown when she arrived hand-in-hand with actor boyfriend Adam Goldberg. And catwalk queen Alek Wek made a dazzling impression with a bright floral dress and pink furry stole. Sponsored by Dior, the annual event is a celebration of the up-and-coming talents who look set to make their mark on the art world. And not a few of the A-list guests opted to pay tribute to the French fashion house by wearing its designs. X-Men star Famke Janssen was every inch the femme fatale in a silver-grey satin creation, while Chloe Sevigny was likewise turning heads in a full-length purple affair. But not all of those present were quite so conscious of the event's stylish sponsors - former boxing champion Mike Tyson didn't even know who they were. "Dior?", he asked. Gisele in the doghouse 13.12.2004

IF Leonardo DiCaprio is planning to start a family with Gisele Bundchen, he certainly isn't going to tell anyone about it. "I never have commented on it," he said. "She's a wonderful girl. And that's the only thing I'll say." And about babies? "Someday that's going to happen I'm sure." The beautiful couple is currently battling with a young Californian family who claim they are owed $5,000 by Gisele after returning her Yorkshire terrier, Vida, after it went missing in November. The financial reward was offered, but when 20-year-old Janelle Olson, 21-year-old Paul Douwenga and their 18-month-old son found the dog and took it back, they were met by three detectives who arrested them at gunpoint. "If we had gotten the reward money as promised and an apology on the night all this happened, that would have been the end of it," Douwenga told Access Hollywood. "Now we are upset and distressed about everything we have had to go through including reading press reports instigated by Bundchen, or her entourage, that stated or implied we must be 'dognappers' or leave us feeling humiliated when we have to tell our friends that although we brought the dog back to its owner, we didn't get the promised reward."...VOGUE

Flame-haired actress Julianne Moore meanwhile got into the spirit of things by donning a fur stole for her trip down the red carpet. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been braced for controversy over the new exhibit, which traces the fashion industry's use of fur and feathers down through the years. But the activist group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals have given their backing to the show, saying that it takes a balanced look at the animal rights debate. "It very much signals a change in the way we are trying to change fashion from within the industry rather than from the outside," said PETA spokesman Michael McGraw. "We're hoping that by presenting both sides of the issue, people will come away from the exhibit realising sensibilities have changed in modern times and there's no reason to continue wearing fur and other animal skins."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Supermodel Klum dishes pearls of wisdom 06.12.2004

When supermodel Heidi Klum decided to write a book, she didn't want it to be just a picture book. She wanted to offer some words of wisdom. But that's not the point of the book. Among eight "rules of model behavior" Klum outlines are such maxims as "You have to want it, baby" and "Have a blast while it lasts." And there are tips on getting ahead at work and getting better sex -- Heidi's advice: "Become the fantasy." "I wanted to write something because I thought I had so many great stories to tell and I had so many pictures and I didn't want to just do a picture book," Klum said after signing copies at a Wall Street bookshop in New York on Friday...CNN

Giorgio Armani couture 02.12.2004

AT 70-years-old, you'd think Giorgio Armani had conquered every corner of the fashion world, but he still wants to make it in the world of haute couture. The Italian designer has announced that he will unveil his first couture collection in Paris in January to 300 guests and, despite being off the official calendar, it is likely to be one of Couture Week's hottest tickets. With the likes of Versace and Emanuel Ungaro announcing that they had pulled their incredibly expensive couture lines to concentrate wholly on ready-to-wear in recent seasons, Armani is going against the grain by launching the Giorgio Armani Atelier. He is, however, determined to silence murmurs in the fashion industry of his impending retirement and is going to great lengths to prove that there is plenty of design spirit left in him yet. Having created several intricately layered and embellished gowns for his spring/summer 2005 collection in Milan last September, he says that couture was simply "a natural progression to expand this point of view into the Giorgio Armani Atelier collection and bring it to Paris", adding that he is "now aiming to capture the very summit of the luxury market"....VOGUE

H&M hits back at Lagerfeld 01.12.2004

Karl Lagerfeld made no secret of his displeasure when H&M decided to produce his designs in larger sizes. The German fashionista seemed perturbed when his collaboration with H&M hit the shelves two weeks ago in sizes ranging up to 16. "What I designed was fashion for slender and slim people," he said. "That was the original idea." But bosses at the Swedish company have hit back at the 66-year-old, saying that he has offended many of their customers. "I can see why the women of Britain feel upset about what Karl said and I think he should say sorry to them," said marketing director Jorgen Andersson. Now that they have set up their own label as well as a secondary Pink Label line of cashmere sweaters, they're taking full advantage of being twins. "It does make a difference to our design aesthetic," goes on Kathryn. "We really empathise with each other's references. Darth Vader starstruck by Heidi Klum 25.11.2004

Heidi Klum is not the kind of girl to get flustered when she finds herself sitting next to a tall, dark movie star. But the German supermodel would be forgiven for feeling a little intimidated after coming face to face with Star Wars super-villain Darth Vader on a recent advertising shoot. The statuesque blonde had a close encounter with the dark side while filming a new clip for internet company Target. And it would seem that Lord Vader's nerves of steel have softened, because it was him - not Heidi - who found the experience unsettling. In a jokey pastiche of the original Star Wars film, Darth's trademark heavy breathing becomes shallow and strained when the catwalk queen sits down next to him. The new advertisement has been made to publicise a new service which offers members of the public the chance to receive recorded wake-up calls from their favourite stars. Manning the phones in a call centre is something of a step down from leading an inter-galactic empire. But we can expect the Dark Lord to be back on appropriately menacing form when he takes on the Jedi Knights in Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith....HELLO MAGAZINE

Basso&Brooke wins big 23.11.2004

COLIN MCDOWELL meant it when he promised the Fashion Fringe designers would make it big. Having won the first competition at London Fashion Week in September, Basso and Brooke has already won its first major contract, with AEFFE in Milan. And what's more, the runners up, Sinhastanic, have joined them. The luxury goods company that produces and distributes lines for the likes of Alberta Ferretti, Moschino, Narciso Rodriguez, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Pollini has added London's most exciting new labels to its books for at least the next two seasons. "Certainly, it is in the interest of the industry to support emerging talent and to bring exciting new ideas and excitement to the market," Massimo Ferretti, chairman of AEFFE, said yesterday. "I truly found these two young design teams' enthusiasm contagious!" Christopher Brooke, the 30-year-old designer who hooked up with graphic designer Bruno Basso only a year ago, is clearly enjoying riding the wave of success. "This is a fantastic opportunity at this early stage," he says. "While the initial contract is for just one year, we will renegotiate at the end of that year if we're both happy. It isn't worth Massimo's while to get into this for just a couple of seasons. He wants to build a brand from scratch, as do we." Describing the label that Basso & Brooke will become as "quite overpowering - in the Versace camp", Brooke admits that he's already taking advantage of his fellow AEFFE labels by having Pollini design shoes for an autumn/winter collection that will hit the London catwalk in February. "The shoes we made for the competition weren't made for selling, but we've had immense interest in them," he says. "It's great to be able to fulfil that need." Obliged to continue showing in London for the next five years according to the Fashion Fringe rules, Brooke has no desire to leave as yet. "I'm very happy here," he goes on. "If London becomes even more of an exciting place to see design talent, which is the point of the entire project, then I can't see us ever leaving."....VOGUE

Lagerfeld unimpressed by H&M’s big idea 20.11.2004

Karl Lagerfeld, whose first collaboration with H&M debuted this week, has declared he will never work with the Swedish retailer again after it produced his designs in larger sizes. The style guru, who underwent a dramatic transformation when he lost over six and a half stone two years ago, was apparently incensed at the idea of big-boned consumers wearing his clothes. "What I designed was fashion for slender and slim people," he said. "That was the original idea." The 66-year-old was also frustrated by the retail giant’s strategy of restricting sales to 20 select outlets across Europe. "It was great to work with the people at H&M as we all helped each other to make it a success," he said. "But the incomprehensible decisions of the management in Stockholm have taken away any desire to do it again." "They did not make the clothes in sufficient quantities. I find it embarrassing that H&M let down so many people. I don't think that is very kind, especially for people in small towns and countries in Eastern Europe. It is snobbery created by anti-snobbery."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Helen Taylor joins fashion stars at Lancôme awards 19.11.2004

Elegant royal Lady Helen Taylor, who has long been a favourite with fashion houses, made a “casual” appearance at the Lancôme Colour Design awards in London on Wednesday. The Armani ambassador, who is 25th in line to the British throne, rubbed elbows with top designers, models and celebs in a floral black dress, worn over a pair of loose-fitting jeans. British model Jodie Kidd took in the exclusive affair showing off a chic new look. The catwalk queen has recently traded her blonde locks for a new, shoulder-length brunette 'do. She and fellow model and golfing aficionado Ines Sastre mingled with a crowd which also included relative newcomer Lily Cole. The flame-haired catwalk star was resplendent in a striking blue and brown print number accessorised with matching shoes and tights. The annual event, at the Old Saatchi Gallery, is fast becoming one of the “must attend” shows on the busy British fashion calendar. The event showcases outfits by students of Central St Martins College who are challenged by Lancôme’s leading artistic advisor, Fred Farrugia, to create designs around the firm’s latest make-up collection....HELLO MAGAZINE

Sting's daughter Katie rocks the catwalk 17.11.2004

Sting has long been known as one of the music industry's most stylish men. And it seems his daughter Katie has inherited her father's fashion sense, as she took to the catwalk for fashion house Chester Bonham on Monday. Katie set the flashbulbs blazing in the Aston Martin venue in Mayfair with a layered, multi-coloured gown and fur-trimmed, lime jacket. Sting's eldest daughter also made a memorable impression on the audience with a striking suede one-piece over a check shirt. The pretty 22-year-old is by no means the first catwalk queen to have a rock star father. After landing a much-coveted contract with Lancome cosmetics, Mick Jagger's daughter Liz is one of the fashion industry's hottest properties. And Ronnie Wood's daughter Leah has also made her mark, by sashaying down the runway for the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Julien Macdonald...HELLO MAGAZINE

Tom Ford sets his sights on Tinseltown 12.11.2004

Cinema fans can look forward to seeing a seriously stylish films in the years to come, because former Gucci head Tom Ford is making the move into directing. The renowned designer, who transformed the Italian fashion house during his ten-year tenure, says he already has three productions in the pipeline. Tom is remaining tight-lipped about the flicks, but he has revealed that one is a screenplay he has written himself and another will be a big screen adaptation of one of his favourite books. And despite the fact he is a relative novice to the movie industry, he is confident of making his mark. "There are certain skill sets that are applicable to both," he says. "The most important thing is that you have to have a vision, you have to have a message, you have to have something to say." And although he accepts that being famous has helped him get started, he says having such a big reputation also has its downside. "I will not be able to make a movie that is not noticed in the way that a lot of first-timers can," he explained...HELLO MAGAZINE

Screen stars glam it up for Louis Vuitton gala 10.11.2004

Tinseltown's leading ladies rarely fail to turn on the style when there is a major gala event to be attended. And there's even more pressure to look your best if the bash is being staged by one of the biggest names in fashion. But Sarah Jessica Parker and Kirsten Dunst managed to hit just the right note when they arrived for the Louis Vuitton cancer fundraiser this week. Sex And The City star Sarah, who co-hosted the event with Jamie Foxx and Dustin Hoffman, was sporting an elegant pair of three-quarter length black trousers with a matching sequinned top, while Kirsten opted for a simple white dress over a polo-neck T-shirt. Christina Ricci was likewise turning heads, in a figure-hugging pink and white creation, and Orlando Bloom's girlfriend, Kate Bosworth, made her mark with a strapless beige number. But perhaps the most memorable ensembles of the evening were those worn by the Williams sisters. Venus was sporting a green plaid cardigan over a black minidress, while Serena made quite an impression in a white skirt and jacket with black detailing....HELLO MAGAZINE

Klum's model advice 08.11.2004

HEIDI KLUM may be head of a judge panel that will shortly encourage new designers to make their first break in the fashion industry, but she is far more reticent about bringing new models into the game. The 31-year-old model insists that, rather than glamorous, modelling is hard work and can be damaging to a girl's self esteem. "Think carefully before you become a model," she warns. "People think modelling is all fun and glamour. But the truth is it's a business. When I'm hired for a campaign or a job, I have an obligation to the client. In modelling you are a commodity, and sometimes that's not great for the ego." Klum has also rubbished rumours that she is planning to marry her boyfriend Seal, admitting that her five-year marriage to Ric Pipino fulfilled her romantic needs. "I don't know if I will marry again," she told CONTACTMUSIC.COM. "I was married and I have no regrets, but the good thing is that I have done that. A lot of my girlfriends are still dreaming of the white dress and the beautiful cake. I don't have to fulfil that dream anymore."....VOGUE

New mum Heidi shows she's still hot on Halloween 02.11.2004

Heidi Klum's annual Halloween party has become something of an institution on the Big Apple social scene and despite recently becoming a mum, the model is clearly as enthusiastic about the holiday as ever. The catwalk stunner was almost unrecognisable in a sizzling red wig and fangs as she partied alongside boyfriend Seal, darkly handsome in Phantom Of The Opera garb. Heidi, who spends months working on her costume, had obviously put as much thought into her get up as she did last year when she spent several hours getting her teeth gold plated to help transform her into an alien. In the past she has dressed as everything from Lady Godiva to Betty Boop. After making such an effort herself, Heidi is determined to ensure her guests do, too. "I'm very strict," she admits. "If you don't wear a costume it ruins everything. But people need to get crazy, with fantastic costumes. Putting on a clown nose and a funny hat is not enough." Not surprising then that guests such as Mariah Carey, who wore perhaps the world's skimpiest bridal outfit, and P Diddy – a masked centurion – had gone all out on their own fancy dress. Also joining in the fun were reclusive Versace heiress Allegra, Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton. And Heidi wasn't the only one getting into the spirit of things over the weekend. Posh rocks the house 01.11.2004

SHE says fashion is her true calling and this weekend we finally got to see the fruits of Victoria Beckham's labour. With the designer herself in the front row, VB Rocks, the ex-Spice Girl's capsule collection for denim brand Rock & Republic made it onto the catwalk as part of Los Angeles Fashion Week. With her baby bump just beginning to show, Victoria couldn't be persuaded to actually model her sexy jeans and tiny tees, but did take a victory waltz down the runway alongside Rock & Republic designer Michael Ball at the end of the show. "I have found something I am good at," a smiling Posh told the crowd and judging by the excited reaction, they obviously agreed. The much-hyped collaboration came about because the self-confessed denim addict couldn't find a pair of jeans she truly loved, despite having hundreds hoarded away in her walk-in wardrobe - now she won't wear anything else. Victoria says her designs will fit like a "second skin" with a kick flare at the bottom to sit neatly over heels, but the star feature, for those of us not blessed with Posh's neat little figure, will be the "wonder bra effect" on the bottom, which is designed to give us all peachy rears while giving the impression of longer, slimmer legs. So does this signal a complete change in Posh's career plans? It would appear so. Next in line will be a handbag range, featuring animal skin clutches, a baby bag and maternity jeans. "Victoria knows exactly what she likes to wear now she's pregnant. She's putting those ideas in her designs," her spokeswoman said recently. After all, who needs to rock the charts when you can Rock & Republic?....VOGUE

Michelle Pfeiffer leads tributes at Armani gala 30.10.2004

Catwalk queen Heidi Klum, stunning in a bandeau-top, floor-length gown, was also on hand to pay tribute to the design guru, accompanied by new beau Seal. Giorgio himself traded his trademark black T-shirt for a tuxedo. And he was eager to assure his A-list admirers he is not planning to retire any time soon. "A lifetime career award signifies closure or a conclusion," he said. "But I just want to be precise that it's not in my case." Proving his point, the iconic designer has been hard at work during his stay in the Big Apple. Currently considering taking up with a major industry player such as L'Oreal or LVMH, having admitted that he can't be bothered with an initial public offering, the 70-year-old designer is determined not to impose too much responsibility on his family when he eventually does retire. However, for me to make a decision [about the future] today is truly impossible." Thousands of people are expected to attend a catwalk show of Armani's latest collection in New York's Pier 94 tonight, which he advertised to the public by way of an ad in Paper magazine. Dubbing the show "a little gift to New York", the designer is clearly making a point that he has no intention of going anywhere for sometime. Fashion worship 25.10.2004

Now, with Christian shops being inundated with requests from fashion conscious teenagers, the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales has published a leaflet stressing the religious significance of the rosary. "We have sold more than 100 rosary beads in the past six weeks," Shirley Nicholls, manager of the Revelations Christian Bookshop in Ipswich, told The Telegraph. "We normally sell about three dozen in April and May, when people have them for their first communion, and then the odd one during the rest of the year. Breaking News: Guccý Boss Out 21.10.2004

ROBERT POLET, who took over from Domenico de Sole as CEO and chairman of Gucci Group in April, confirmed today that Giacomo Santucci, president and CEO of Gucci division, was leaving the company. Announcing that Santucci's employment had been "terminated", Polet brought an end to speculation that has surrounded the Gucci camp since De Sole and Tom Ford's departure. Brought in by De Sole in January 2001 after eight years at Prada, Santucci was considered something of a disciple of the former CEO. He was, however, considered a valuable member of the remaining team, particularly in light of the fact that De Sole's replacement, Polet, had no prior experience of the luxury goods market. But it seems that life under the new Gucci regime didn't suit him. According to Women's Wear Daily earlier in the week, Santucci's contract renewal was overlooked in the furore of negotiations last autumn. He is said to have turned down a recent offer to have his contract renewed on the same terms as the former one, however, and to have launched into resignation negotiations. A source close to him suggested that Santucci wanted to carry on Ford and De Sole's softly-softly approach to growing fledgling labels, such as Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Bottega Veneta, but his bosses disagreed. "In [PPR's] mind it is easier to grow the profits and revenue where they already exist rather than growing revenue and reducing losses at the smaller brands," the source said...VOGUE

Tyra Banks reveals $10-million fantasy bra 15.10.2004

It's hard to tell which is the more eye-catching subject in Tyra Banks' latest photo shoot – the $10-million bra she's sporting or the supermodel herself. Tyra certainly gives Victoria's Secret's Heavenly '70' Fantasy bra, encrusted with nearly 3,000 diamonds, a run for its money in the shot, which will be featured in the lingerie firm's famed Christmas catalogue. But there's no mistaking the glittering star of the show – the angel wing-themed bra, set in 18-karat white gold and designed by jeweller Mouawad, counts a flawless 70-carat pear-shaped diamond as its centrepiece. Though the 112-carat bra is not the most expensive ever – Harry Winston created a $15-million version in 2000 – it is Victoria's Secret's most labour-instensive design. More than 275 hours of handiwork went into the making of the bejewelled bust-lifter, inspired by the company's Angels Collection. Modern elegance at Paris Fashion Week 14.10.2004

The fashion industry's top designers offered women an elegant but playful wardrobe at this year's Paris Fashion Week. Clean lines and sophisticated femininity dominated most of the collections, though one or two of the big guns also added a touch of sassy charm. Jean-Paul Gaultier presented another triumphant collection for Hermés, bringing a refined modern touch to the label's trademark classicism. Long sheath-like gowns combined white with vibrant reds and oranges, as the former enfant terrible of French fashion revealed a more understated side. The collection, which was shown at the Left Bank's beautiful Beaux Arts School, also featured romantic, puff-sleeved blouses, crisp linen trouser suits and butterscotch leather coats. Elegance was also the direction taken at Rochas, where Olivier Theyskens sent models sashaying down the runway in delicate, Fortuny-style pleated gowns in eau de nil and jade hues. Much to the delight of his audience, the 27-year-old Belgian struck a fine balance between chic and cool. Naoki Takizawa's new range for Issey Miyake was likewise a homage to feminine grace, with clean, simple lines dominating his white jersey dresses and black suits. Predictably Vivienne Westwood was on more flamboyant form, with gold and pink lamé incorporated alongside pastel silks in a series of voluminous gowns and skirt combos. At Yves Saint Laurent, Stefano Pilati's debut collection was also a celebration of bright colours, with models taking to the Paris Stock Exchange runway in vibrant, frilly cocktail dresses and sharply tailored coats. The Italian designer took the label in a radical new direction with playful creations which are a world away from the sensual formality of his predecessor Tom Ford....HELLO MAGAZINE

The Oscar-winning actress was joined by a roll call of top royals and fashion world heavyweights at the launch of her new ad for Chanel No 5. But is was the Monegasque royal Charlotte Casiraghi who stole the show. The 18-year-old, who was dressed in a strapless black number with an eye-catching diamond brooch, set the flashbulbs blazing when she arrived for the glitzy bash. Her mother Princess Caroline meanwhile opted for Chanel couture, while her brothers Andrea and Pierre went casual in white shirts and jeans. Belgium's royal household was likewise represented, with Princess Claire arriving on the arm of her husband Prince Laurent. The star of the show was also dressed to impress, in a shimmering beaded Chanel gown. Nicole was photographed chatting with her Moulin Rouge collaborator Baz Luhrman, who directed the new clip, and style guru Karl Lagerfeld. And there was a generous sprinkling of top models too, with big names like Eva Herzigova and Amber Valletta mingling among the crowd. Bosses at the fashion house made sure the setting was just as impressive as the guest list. The Hotel Pozzo di Borgo, on Paris' romantic Left Bank, was decked out with white muslin and hundreds of scented candles. After a lavish banquet of roasted lobster and seabass, the revellers boogied the night away until the small hours...HELLO MAGAZINE

Lagerfeld brings Chanel touch to high street 12.10.2004

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman set off a frenzy of flashbulbs as she stood alongside Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld at the French label's exclusive Paris show on Friday. But as the film star took centre stage for Chanel No 5 fragrance – and supermodel legends like Linda Evangelista hit the catwalk – Karl was also preparing to deliver Lagerfeld glamour to the average shopper. The German fashion designer has created a series of new looks for high street chain H&M, which will hit store shelves around the world next month. The Lagerfeld line, a one-off collection, consists of about 30 pieces, from little black dresses to budget-savvy versions of the couturier's crisp, high-collared white shirts. "I've been fascinated by what they do for a long time," Karl said of his collaboration with Swedish retailer H&M, "and they were apparently interested in what I represent." Lagerfeld's name also graces the shop's new limited-edition fragrance, Liquid Karl, a "unique scent inspired by mouth-watering notes of rich cocoa, mulled spices and crispy bread", according to the company. "I like the idea of a fragrance being made like this, like a seasonal scent that will only be available for a short time, and then on to the next trend," says the designer....HELLO MAGAZINE

Stella McCartney pregnant with first child 10.10.2004

When Stella McCartney unveiled her latest collection at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday, she also revealed another piece of news – she's pregnant. The fashion designer daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney confirmed that she and her husband, Alasdhair Willis, are expecting their first baby. Due next spring, the new addition will be Sir Paul's third grandchild. And as to whether Stella will find out in advance if she'll be welcoming a boy or a girl, she apparently prefers to wait until the baby arrives. "I want it to be a natural thing," she said. "I want the surprise." Stella and Alasdhair wed in August 2003, with stars such as Kate Moss, Hugh Grant, Liv Tyler, Madonna, Sting and Gwyneth Paltrow flocking to Scotland's tranquil Isle of Bute for the nuptials. Armani unveils his driving passion 08.10.2004

Fans of style guru Giorgio Armani can now do their shopping in a car created by the Italian maestro. The 70-year-old has teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to develop the ultimate designer runabout for the fashion-conscious motorist. The result of their collaboration is a limited edition Armani CLK-Class Cabriolet. It features a matte sand exterior, in a newly-developed shade called "sabbia", and an unusual saddle-leather interior. Giorgio has been working closely with the motor giant's design studio in Como in order to put the finishing touches to the vehicle. "We very quickly found a common language," he said. "It was fascinating to see how Mercedes-Benz turned my ideas into reality with such attention to detail. I think the result speaks for itself." Perhaps the only downside of the elegant new car is the price tag. Only 100 units are being made of the Armani CLK, and those hoping to get their hands on one can expect to pay around £65,000....HELLO MAGAZINE

Dior full of surprises at Paris Fashion Week 07.10.2004

While John Galliano often makes headlines for his over-the-top creations and theatrical presentations for Christian Dior, this time the flamboyant designer has managed to shock fashionistas for an entirely different reason. In the past, Galliano has sent exaggerated looks, ranging from haute couture Egyptian idols to Elvis-like Russian dolls, down the Paris catwalks. But at this season's spring-summer fashion week, he's taken a different, and noticeably more commercial, approach with pretty ladylike suits, wearable trousers and frocks, and colourful springtime patterns sprinkled among his more edgy creations. While overall the pieces, in denim, silk, satin and chiffon, might have been more tame than collections past, Galliano's trademark layers and eccentric mix and match made them his own. "Chic, light, weightless – pure Galliano," opined French actress Isabelle Adjani. But Dior wasn't the only fashion house taking an unexpected turn. Lagerfeld Gallery, which was among the few labels to incorporate brightly hued springtime ensembles, also showed that darker winter colours will also reign during the summer season. Similarly, Jean-Paul Gaultier showed a gypsy-inspired lineup of earth-tones, Balenciaga focused on navy blue and Vivienne Westwood presented an array of black, grey and coffee-coloured designs...HELLO MAGAZINE

Gisele swaps catwalk for red carpet at film debut 06.10.2004

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen is quite accustomed to strutting her stuff on the catwalk, but she found herself in a whole new world as she worked the red carpet at her first-ever film premiere. The Brazilian beauty, making her big screen debut in Taxi alongside Oscar-nominated star Queen Latifah, attended the New York screening of the film on Sunday night. And while she usually sets flashbulbs popping with boyfriend Leonardo diCaprio, this time the statuesque runway star was accompanied by two of her biggest fans – her parents. Gisele, who plays a sexy bank robber in the flick, doesn't expect to win an Academy Award for her first-ever screen role. "I never thought of this movie as the next level of my career," she says. "I just thought, I've been doing the same job for ten years, and this is a new opportunity. "It's not Shakespeare – I'm not telling everyone I'm a serious actress, because that's not who I am. I'm a model. I just enjoy challenges."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Nicole on the scent of iconic style 05.10.2004

Nicole Kidman looks every inch the silver screen goddess in her latest advertising campaign. Dressed in an elegant couture gown with a generous sprinkling of priceless jewels, the actress becomes a style icon in the new commercial for Chanel No 5. The £5-million clip, which was directed by her old friend and Moulin Rouge collaborator Baz Luhrman, shows the actress trying to escape the paparazzi, before enjoying a romantic encounter with a bohemian artist. According to the filmmaker, her character is a representation of the biggest stars of years gone by: "She is a composition of all the iconic women who had, or very well could have had, some relationship with Chanel, from Marilyn Monroe to Jacqueline Kennedy, Maria Callas, Catherine Deneuve, Princess Diana and, now, Nicole." The new ad also features custom-designed outfits by Karl Lagerfeld, not to mention £30 million-worth of jewels. And bosses at the fashion house are clearly delighted with their latest A-list signing. "We've been dreaming of her for many years," said president Francoise Montenay. "For us, she is the most iconic person you could ever find."...HELLO MAGAZINE

Spirit of Elvis rocks milan fashion week 30.09.2004

Elvis Presley took Milan Fashion Week by storm on Tuesday, when Dolce And Gabbana used their latest collection to pay tribute to the iconic singer. A succession of models sashayed down the runway in outfits inspired by the crooner's early career, while a medley of his greatest hits played in the background. The 1961 flick Blue Hawaii made a comeback, with tiny hula-skirts and bright tropical prints much in evidence. A backdrop of palm trees, sand and exotic flowers meanwhile helped to complete the beach effect. For the evening, the Italian duo offered some daring micro-dresses with side-slits so high that matching underwear would be a must. Indeed the flamboyant designers also included some bright pink briefs with diamante studs to complete the look. And the King's personal style was likewise represented with rockabilly suits complemented by white shoes and socks. A youthful Elvis also looked out from a series of t-shirts that were produced with the Presley family's permission...HELLO MAGAZINE

£2-million gown is jewel in Julien's crown 25.09.2004

Prom princesses and retro Hollywood queens were the themes of Julien Macdonald's highly-anticipated presentation at London Fashion Week, which drew front row celebrities ranging from pop star Rachel Stevens to fashion icon Twiggy. Julien, one-time creative director of Givenchy, stepped away from his trademark in-your-face sexiness in favour of more frothy confections, inspired by the high glamour of Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Ava Gardner. Feminine frills were the name of the game in the parade of debutante ball gowns, ruffled chiffon blouses and 1940s-style shorts. The Welsh designer – a favourite of Kylie Minogue and Joely Richardson – didn't completely turn his back on his famous figure-hugging glitz, however, sending schoolgirl supermodel Lily Cole down the catwalk in a plunge-front floral gown as well as a white crepe de chine number. And in what looks to be the most expensive finish of London fashion week, he saved the jewel of his spring-summer crown – a sparkling silver creation studded with diamonds and worth more than £2 million – for the grand finale....HELLO MAGAZINE

New Beach Lines From Designers Down Under 12.09.2004

While Britain packs away its summer threads for another year, fashionistas Down Under are busy showcasing the swimwear styles soon to be sizzling from Bondi to Brisbane. Sending some surprisingly feminine looks down the runway at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week was Australian fashion bad boy Wayne Cooper, who seems to have swapped his usual street-wise take for a more girly approach. His favourite black was still present, of course, in a cheeky bandeau top and low slung bikini bottoms, but shared the catwalk with flirty numbers complete with frills on the hip and bust. At Zimmerman, strong zig-zag and psychedelic prints in bold fuchsia hues reigned supreme in both bikini and one-piece lines, while designer Jodhi Packer had gone for high-octane star factor in her Tigerlily collection for the Myer department store. "We wanted it to be more glamorous and sophisticated than what it has been . . . like the Riviera," she said. Comprising over 100 presentations, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is Australia's largest fashion event with 5,000 tickets for the Federation Square evening shows being snapped up in just five hours.

Explosion Of Colour At N.Y. Fashion Week 11.09.2004

Late summer showers fell on the Big Apple on Wednesday, but there was no better remedy for the damp weather than the rainbow of colours seen on the New York Fashion Week catwalks. The US designer splashed a range of hues among his trademark subdued palette of neutral tones. Wednesday's lineup also included "new romance" from American classic Perry Ellis, edgy pieces from Imitation of Christ and springtime garden ensembles presented by Tracy Reese. If there was a gong for sheer star power, however, it would have to go to Heatherette, whose roster of models included diva Naomi Campbell and hotel heiress Paris Hilton. Among the nearly 80 shows scheduled for the remainder of NY Fashion week, which runs until September 15, are Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang and Donna Karan....MAGAZINE

Calvin Klein back track after courtside "Setback" 08.04.2003

Iconic designer Calvin Klein has been speaking about his battle with substance abuse, after being involved in a surprising incident at a recent basketball game. Calvin provoked a flood of rumours last month, after he forced a stoppage at a New York Nicks game by attempting to strike up a conversation with one of the players. The 60-year-old strode onto the court at Madison Square Garden and took player Latrell Sprewell by the arm, before stewards intervened and escorted him back to his seat. Latrell later said Calvin was mumbling and could not be understood. Speaking for the first time about the incident, Calvin admitted he had suffered a "setback" in his recovery from drug abuse, but insisted he is now back on track. "For many years, I've been able to successfully address my abuse issues through counselling and regular attendance at meetings," said the legendary designer. "However, when I recently stopped attending meetings regularly, I suffered a setback. Fortunately, I was lucky with the help of others to recognise the problem.".......HELLOMAGAZINE

AMY MORRIS' handbags are the sort of divine treats that girls beg their boyfriends for. For her spring/summer collection, 'Enduring Treasure', she was inspired by an Arabian night and produced bags of dusty rose, taupe and buttermilk leather embellished with charms, trinkets, beads and antique coins. The 'Broach The Bows' collection for autumn/winter, meanwhile, is made up of soft leather bags in grey-green, burnt rose and black that feature pretty girlish bows and individual vintage broaches that Amy has been collecting from various markets around London. "I want them to look as if my customers have decorated their bags with their favourite and most precious bits and pieces," says 23-year-old Amy, who completed a foundation course at Central Saint Martins before studying accessory design at the London College of Fashion. "I want to extend the collection to make-up and weekend bags and I have made a few belts for spring/summer but in the main I want this to be a collection of big, functional handbags that are pretty and really special," she goes on. "It is a luxurious and more fun alternative to the standard leather-with-a-label bags as they are really high quality and the muted colours make them wearable." But Morris plans to provide for far more than just the 20-something London fashionista. "I want to satisfy stylish people across the board," she says. "My mother would carry one. So would my grandmother." Amy Morris bags are stocked at Bare, Paul & Joe, The Cross, Fenwick and Liberty. For more information call Tania Bard, 020 7580 5518.......VOGUE
